| David’s fascination with food dates back to 1949, when he and his parents moved to Port Washington, New York—next door to an elderly couple from Naples, whose children were grown, and loved to feed their little neighbor home-made Italian cooking. As for Pan, she grew up in the countryside of Udon Thani Province in Thailand’s Northeast (Isaan) region, where eating—and discovering wild edibles of the animal and plant kingdoms—is everybody’s favorite pastime, and a good cook is honored by all. |

| Back in the early 1970s, when David was traveling around Nepal doing photography for a magazine that never saw the light of day, and then around Thailand making TV commercials and exploring out-of-the-way places, he thought how great it would be if one of the peaceful and often beautiful little towns he visited could offer a really good meal. Even a Western meal, sometimes. With wine, too, why not? |
| He couldn’t get the idea out of his head, so when he and Pan moved out of the Big Bad Mango (Bangkok after Progress came) and settled on Ko Sichang, it wasn’t long before they started a restaurant. The first place had only three tables, but a great view. |

เรื่องราวและจุดเริ่มต้นของร้านอาหารป้าปั่นและลุงวิศ คงต้องย้อนกลับไปในปี 1949 เมื่อคุณพ่อของลุงปั่นนั้น ย้ายถิ่นฐานไปยังพอร์ตวอชิงตัน ในอเมริกา และบ้านพักอยู่ติดกับคู่สามีภรรยาสูงอายุที่ย้ายมาจากเมเปิ้ล ทั้งคู่ที่ชอบทำอาหารอิตาเลี่ยนมาเลี้ยงเด็กๆและเพื่อนบ้านในระแวกใกล้เคียงเสมอๆ สำหรับป้าปั่น นั้นเกิดและเติบโตมาในจังหวัดอุดรธานี ซึ่งมีความนิยมชมชอบในการประกอบอาหารและการรับประทานอาหารป่าและอาหารพื้นบ้านเป็นทุนเดิมอยู่แล้ว

| และในช่วงปี 1970 ลุงเดวิดได้เดินทางไปประเทศเนปาลเพื่อท่องเที่ยวและถ่ายภาพให้กับนิตยสารฉบับหนึ่ง รวมทั้งการเดินทางมายังประเทศไทย และได้สัมผัสถึงวิถีชีวิตของผู้คนที่ใช้ชีวิตอย่างเงียบสงบในเมืองเล็กๆที่สวยงาม และได้สัมผัสถึงวัฒนธรรมการรับประทานอาหารที่แตกต่างออกไป นั่นเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นที่ทำให้ทั้งลุงเดวิดและป้าปั่นย้ายมาตั้งรกราก ณ. เกาะสีชัง และใช้เวลาไม่นานก็ได้เริ่มทำร้านอาหาร จากแรกเริ่มนั้นมีโต๊ะรับประทานอาหารที่ให้ลูกค้านั่งเพียง 3 โต๊ะ เท่านั้น และได้ขยับขยายมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน |

We try to make eating at Pan & David a pleasure, memorable if possible. We're happy to say we do please a lot of people, thanks to fresh seafood (live crabs), an attractive garden, really friendly service, English-language paperbacks and newspapers, plus truly good cooking. And a selection of good to excellent wines at prices as much as B1000 lower than the same bottle in Bangkok or Pattaya. |

| We use the best ingredients we can find--jumbo prawns from island waters, real Parmigiano Reggiano cheese from Italy, extra-virgin olive oil, Modena balsamic vinegar, sea salt, Greek Kalamata olives, herbs from our own organic garden. You can enjoy Thai dishes from subtle to volcanic, great pasta, fine sandwiches or a small selection of first-class European entrees. Not to mention home-made ice cream in flavors like maple pecan, raspberry sorbet, fresh strawberry and almond. |
